Devoys stands as a landmark in Johnstown, but its story begins long before our doors opened. Our name is a tribute to Johnstown’s most famous son, John Devoy, the man Pádraig Pearse called “the greatest of the Fenians.” Born in 1842 in the neighbouring townland of Greenhills, his legacy of tenacity and vision is woven into the very fabric of this location.
Set within a building long part of the local fabric, Devoys has been carefully restored to create a destination that feels both timeless and contemporary. Original features sit alongside considered modern design, crafted to feel warm, inviting, and elegant.
Named in honour of Johnstown’s most famous son, John Devoy, our building stands just moments from where “the greatest of the Fenians” was born. We have revitalised this historic site to continue its legacy as a vital meeting point for the Kildare community.
